Coastal Plains RESA One-Year Supervised Practicum



Georgia Professional Standards Commission Alternative Certification: Option B. Have Passed the Georgia Required Basic Skills Assessment ( GACEŽ Basic Skills) and the Georgia Required Subject Content Assessment (GACEŽ) and a Georgia approved professional pedagogy assessment (GACEŽ Professional Pedagogy) ). Must also hold a PSC-accepted college degree in the certificate field or a PSC-designated related field. Employing system requests certificate; applicant completes 1-year supervised program and remaining special Georgia requirements during validity period of certificate.

Requirements for the practicum candidate

  • employed by a system in a face-to-face classroom setting (NOT computer-assisted instruction)

  • degree in closely related field

  • GPA of 2.5 or higher in all college-level work completed within the last ten years

  • received clearance for non-renewable teacher certification

  • meet the requirements for GACE Basic Skills, GACE Required Subject Content Assessment, and the GACE Professional Pedagogy Assessment prior to October 1 of the year of practicum enrollment

  • meet all other requirements of the employing school system

During the practicum, the candidate must complete an extensive portfolio aligned with *Charlotte Danielson’s framework with artifacts of classroom implementation and unit plans for a minimum of five (5) instructional periods, etc.

The school must provide the following support.

  • building administrator to serve on the support team and evaluate the beginning teacher

  • school-based mentor preferably TSS endorsed

  • mentor meets with the teacher weekly for a minimum of 36 out-of-class hours for the year

  • mentor observes the teacher a minimum of 6 times

  • mentor conducts pre and post conferences for each observation

  • mentor meets with the beginning teacher support team at least 3 times

  • beginning teacher support team: building administrator, mentor, RESA supervisor

Cost: $3500 (approximately) per participant
